Water Safety Statement issued by South Nation Conservation

South Nation Conservation (SNC) says significant rainfall could lead to some flooding to start April.

The organization has issued a Water Safety Statement saying 20 to 30 millimetres of rain is in the forecast this weekend, alongside mild temperatures and more rainfall expected next week.

That will cause water levels to rise as snow melts and rain fills bodies of water, with possible flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are being warned to be extremely careful around any bodies of water like creeks and streams, and to warn their kids of the risks of playing near them.

People who live in flood-prone areas are also being urged to make sure they’re prepared by making sure their sump pumps work properly, securing anything that could float away in a flood, and having a backup generator and pump on standby.

The statement is in effect until April 7th, but SNC will update or extend it if the situation changes.
