RVCA opens Motts Mills Conservation Area in Elizabethtown-Kitley

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority has opened a new space for the community to enjoy. The new Motts Mills Conservation Area is a small but naturally attractive site that sustains a significant piece of wetland habitat. For several years, the aging Motts Mills Dam and struggling wetland was identified as an important project.

The wetland, once home to a variety of waterfowl and wildlife, was slowly being overtaken by cattails. The Motts Mills wetland is ecologically significant and greatly valued by many local residents because of its natural habitat for Ontario waterfowl and migratory birds. Last fall, the dam was decommissioned and replaced with a berm, built by Ducks Unlimited. The Motts Mills Conservation Area is on Hutton Creek in Elizabethtown-Kitley.

The conservation project was completed through community and landowner partnerships.
