Fire Chiefs Association President talks details for upcoming Leeds-Grenville Fundraising Food Drive

John Okum says every single fire department in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville will be taking part in an upcoming food drive.

“The fire departments are collecting non-perishable food items, or we will take [cash] donations, and that’ll all be provided to the food drive coordinators, and will be distributed according to the needs of the communities,” explains Okum, the President of the FIre Chiefs Association of Leeds and Grenville.

The organization announced on Wednesday that it plans to run a “Fundraising Food Drive” across the region early next month.

Okum says the idea for the initiative began in December, when members of the association saw the increased demand local food banks are experiencing.

“The wonderful community leaders that do the food drives in our communities, they’re very aware of the needs in our respective communities,” Okum explains, “and we as the Fire Chiefs of the Counties are working with them based on what they know, and we’re there to help them. They do such a wonderful job in coordinating food drives, so the fire departments are here to simply offer a helping hand.”

The food drive begins on February 1st and runs until the 11th, with donations set to be collected at fire stations across the United Counties. Okum says you can reach out to your local fire station to learn when and how to donate or contribute.
