OPP offering safety advice for snowmobilers

Some cold and snowy weather is here, but that doesn’t mean all snowmobile trails are ready for use.

OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs are marking January 14th to 22nd as Snowmobile Safety Week. And with that, they want to make sure people are careful.

OPP says that close to 40 per cent of OPP-investigated snowmobile fatalities have occurred on frozen lakes and rivers over the past 10 years and police are telling snowmobilers to avoid frozen waterways.

The groups add the majority of OFSC trails, across the province, are not yet available and snowmobilers need to stay off all OFSC trails – except those that are open – as the closed trails haven’t been deemed safe.
