Brockville Police say they get weekly reports of people being contacted by gift card scammers. On June 17th, a 62-year-old woman received a phone call about her son. She was told he had been involved in an accident and the police needed money to release him.
The instructions were to go to a games store and buy $3600.00 in gift cards, and to give the information on the back of the cards through Western Union. Police want to stress there is no agency that would ever make this request of someone for legitimate reasons. If you receive a call like this, hang up and call police.
