South Grenville Food Bank Executive Director talks Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Brockville Rotary Club’s “Harvest Share Campaign” food drive will also feature some locations collecting donations in Prescott, Augusta and Edwardsburgh-Cardinal.

That’s according to Bonnie Pidgeon Coogler, the Executive Director for the South Grenville Food Bank. In an interview, Coogler says several places outside of Brockville will be collecting donations from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday.

“O’Reilly’s Independent Grocer, we will be there,” she says. “We’re going to be at the North Augusta Fire Hall, the Maitland Fire Hall, the Spencerville Arena, the Cardinal Arena, and we’ve even been invited down to the Prescott Farmers’ Market and Craft Fair.”

She also says both Your Family Dollar in the north side of town and the Dollar Bazaar downtown have put together pre-made bags for donations that people can buy, but you won’t be able to leave other items there for the Food Bank.

In terms of the organization’s needs at the moment, Coogler gave several examples outside of common Thanksgiving foods.

“Sugar is one thing we do need,” she explains. “We buy things like Manwich mix, we buy mashed potatoes, we buy fresh potatoes, that would be fine as well. Things that people can make meals with.”

If you’re interested in contributing to the food bank but not in making a donation, Coogler says the organization is always looking for more volunteers. You can find details for how to work with the Food Bank on its website.
