OPP officers set off on National Police Officers’ Memorial Run

Police officers from across the country have set off on a 460-kilometre run to commemorate their fallen colleagues.

OPP East Region Sergeant Tammy Bradley says the officers are taking part in the annual “National Police Officers’ Memorial Run,” an event launched in Peel in 2005 to raise awareness for the yearly Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service at Parliament Hill.

“The run has now grown to over 200 runners including federal, provincial and municipal police services, Probation, Corrections and Canadian Forces as well as some American Officers,” Bradley says. “They cover the 460-kilometre route each year, raising awareness and funds for the victims’ families, while reflecting on those who are no longer with us.

According to Bradley, the run begins in Toronto Thursday morning, and is expected to end in Ottawa Saturday.

OPP request that motorists be aware of the runners and vehicles on the highway to ensure that everyone using the highway arrives safely,” she adds.
