UCDSB warning parents about “suspicious individual” seen at Winchester Public School

All parents of kids in Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) schools have received an email warning about an incident in Winchester.

According to the email, a “suspicious individual” was seen on Wednesday at Winchester Public School.

“A male in a white car stopped and questioned some students at recess and tried to engage in conversation from the other side of the school fence,” the email reads. “When the teacher on duty approached, the person drove off.”

Local police have been notified and are investigating the situation, the board says, and extra care was taken at the end of the school day.

“Winchester Public School and neighbouring Chesterville Public School held their walkers at the end of the day until they could be met by parents or guardians as an extra precaution,” it says.

The board is urging parents to take this opportunity to speak with their kids about how to safely deal with strangers, and what to do in a situation like this.
