UCDSB discusses $5,000,000+ investment in modernizing schools

Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Director of Education Ron Ferguson says the board is spending millions to improve students’ learning experience.

At Wednesday’s UCDSB Board of Trustees meeting, Ferguson explained an investment of more than $5-million the board has made into purchasing new furniture, computers, shop tools, and advanced equipment like 3D printers for schools across the district.

“The implementation of these purchases and upgrades are just the beginning,” Ferguson says. “We have innovative and ambitious goals defined in our overall strategic plans for our school board that we are looking forward to achieving.”

The list of items purchased for schools as part of the investment includes over 2,000 new laptop and desktop computers for students, 400 new computers for staff, and 350 laptops for a new “loaner device” program, intended for temporary and replacement teachers and workers.

“We want to encourage our schools to continue with this thinking,” Ferguson says, “and we will work with them at the central level to carry out real-world learning activities and innovative opportunities.”
