East Region OPP report hundreds of charges over Labour Day weekend

More than 2,000 charges were issued over the first weekend of September in eastern Ontario.

The OPP’s East Region headquarters have announced some details from the Labour Day long weekend on social media.

According to the announcement, 2,381 charges in total were laid by officers.

“Despite OPP efforts to keep roads safe,” it reads, “drivers have contributed to a significant increase in preventable road deaths this year.”

According to the announcement, 48 people have died so far this year on East Region roads.

This year, officers focused on leading causes for motorist deaths, like impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving, while patrolling over the long weekend.

The OPP website has information on how to report someone driving dangerously or while impaired.
