Local politicians are taking to social media in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II passing away.
“Grateful for her service to others,” says Michael Barrett, the MP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “God bless Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
Mayor Brett Todd is echoing similar sentiments, and says it’s difficult to fathom the loss.
“She served her constitutional role in exemplary fashion for all of us across the entire Commonwealth, including here during the Queen’s visit to Prescott way back in 1984,” Todd says. “I was only 14, but I well remember that day, the crowds, and the excitement it generated for that afternoon.”
According to Buckingham Palace officials, the Queen passed away at her home in Scotland Thursday afternoon. She was 96 years old.
