Mayor Brett Todd, Council react to James Smith Cree Nation stabbings

This week’s Prescott council meeting began with a show of support for the people of James Smith Cree Nation, in the wake of the recent stabbings there.

Mayor Brett Todd called for a moment of silence at the start of the meeting, after the Indigenous land acknowledgement.

“I just wanted to start off on that note,” Todd said, “as the whole country is in a state of shock and a state of mourning at that ongoing tragedy in Saskatchewan.”

“Thoughts and prayers from all of us here in Prescott go out to those in Saskatchewan affected by this terrible tragedy,” he continued. “I’ve also asked that staff lower the town flags, both here [at Town Hall] and at the harbour.”

The flags will be flying at half mast for 11 days in honour of the victims.
