Town of Prescott considering purchase of new Zamboni

With Prescott’s new arena expected to be finished next summer, council is making plans for its future maintenance.

Town staff is recommending council purchase a new Zamboni ice resurfacing machine for the upcoming Alaine Chartrand Arena.

According to a report to council by  Nathan Richard, the town’s Director of Operations, and Matt Armstrong, its Chief Financial Officer, the new machine being recommended was chosen because of the town’s history with the brand.

“Zamboni was the previous brand of machine that the Town had, they are one of the main suppliers of ice resurfacing machines in Canada and have a good reputation for maintenance and service,” it reads.

According to the report, the new machine would cost $110,000.

$60,000 of that would come from the money already set aside to purchase equipment for the new arena, while the remaining $50,000 would come from the Town’s sale of its previous ice resurfacing machine to Edwardsburgh-Cardinal in 2021.

Council will decide whether it’ll approve the purchase at their next meeting September 6th.
