Price Point Johnstown nearly doubles goal for “Full Tank” Food Bank initiative

64 backpacks full of breakfast, lunch and other essentials for kids returning to school this fall were collected during Price Point Johnstown’s “Full Tank” initiative this year.

The campaign saw donations of non-perishable food, hygiene products, and other items collected on behalf of the South Grenville Food Bank, for children in low income families.

“Our goal this year was 34 backpacks, we were hoping to match what we did last year,” says Amber Vanderzwet, a Client Care representative with the Johnstown car dealership that organized the initiative.

“For us to get 64 blew me away,” she continues. “Just, the overwhelming support and help and generosity of the community was fantastic this year. It was heartwarming in every respect.”

South Grenville Food Bank executive director Bonnie Pidgeon Cougler is thanking all the community members and organizations that helped make the event a success.

“It’s a wonderful community initiative,” she says. “Our community is very good to us.”

Cougler also says the Food Bank is now making plans for a Thanksgiving weekend food drive, with more details to be announced in the next few weeks.
