Gauri Shankar says after decades of living in Prescott, he wants to repay everything the community has done for him.
Shankar has been officially acclaimed as the next Mayor of Prescott, after being the only candidate nominated for this year’s municipal election.
He says his motivation for running for Mayor is similar to the reason he ran for a spot on municipal council in the last election.
“The community has been very good to me and my family, so I felt it was time for me to give back to the community, and one way of doing that was to get involved,” he says.
Shankar, who has lived in Prescott for thirty years, says his experience as a member of council since 2018 has helped prepare him for becoming Mayor.
“I also feel the same way about businesses, you know,” Shankar explains. “The most successful CEOs are the ones who started off working the fries, so to speak, you learn from the bottom and work your way up. So, I’ve been able to kind of pull behind the curtain and see what’s going on, and learn, and I feel like I’m ready now.”
Shankar will be inaugurated as Mayor on November 15th.
