Ten candidates are in the running for a spot on the Town of Prescott’s council this year.
The Town certified the candidate list for this year’s municipal election Monday at 3:46 PM.
Six councillors will be elected from the pool of new candidates that includes Justin Kirkby, Ruth Lockett, Kevin Bunce, Rob Samojilo, Luis Zelayeta, Tracey Young and Mary Campbell.
There are also three incumbent candidates: Leanne Burton, Lee McConnell, and Ray Young.
The only candidate for Mayor this year is current councillor Gauri Shankar.
Brett Todd, the current Mayor who Shankar will be taking over for, declined to comment when reached out to by Moose FM after the nomination period ended late last week.
“I’ll have more to say at a future date but not at the moment,” Todd says. “Just wishing the best to pretty much everyone who has put their name forward here and all over Leeds-Grenville.”
Election Day is October 24th.
