HMCS Oriole returns to Brockville this weekend

If you weren’t able to visit the oldest ship in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) last time it was in South Grenville, you’ll have a chance again in a few days.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Oriole, which previously stopped in Brockville on its way to Toronto in late May, will return to the city’s docks for a two-day visit on Saturday, August 20th.

The ship’s Public Affairs Officer, Scott Ferris, says the visit is part of a program called “Great Lakes Deployment 2022” (GLD), visiting various communities along the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes.

“GLD provides Canadians with a unique opportunity to tour one of Canada’s naval ships and to learn about life in the Royal Canadian Navy from our sailors,” Ferris says. “It also provides an opportunity to speak with our sailors and recruiters to find out more about a career in the RCN.”

While it’s docked, free deck tours of the ship will be available, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the 20th and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the 21st. It’ll be docking at Blockhouse Island if you want to visit.
