Merrickville Beach’s concentration of E. coli bacteria is still too high for safe swimming for the next week.
That’s according to the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s latest batch of results from its weekly beach water monitoring program.
The organization collects samples from local beaches to test for the bacteria, which can give swimmers ear, eye and throat infections when they’re exposed to high concentrations of it.
Almonte Beach in Mississippi Mills is also listed as unsafe this week, as well as two others in Lanark County.
They’ve all been added to a list of unsafe beaches on the Health Unit’s website, and signs have been posted at all of them warning visitors not to swim there.
The test results are posted every Friday on the organization’s website and social media pages.
