Town of Prescott looking into adding new light poles to RiverWalk District

Some new decorations might be coming to downtown Prescott in the coming months.

In a report to council, Economic Development Officer Dana Valentyne is recommending adding fourteen new “decorative lighthouse themed pole mounted lights” to the RiverWalk District.

“The new lighting will offset the removal of street tree lighting that occurred in 2021 as part of the town’s longer-term street tree replacement plans and serve as a wonderful complement to existing clock tower and downtown lighting,” Valentyne’s report reads.

According to Valentyne, the cost for adding the new lights would come out to $16,800 in total.

She says the Prescott Business Improvement Area, a group that represents businesses in the downtown core, has agreed to help pay for the construction, meaning the town will only need to pay $9,000.

The money would come from the $60,000 in “Modernization” funding set aside in the 2022 budget.

Town council will vote on whether to build the lights at their next meeting on July 18th.
