WDMH, KDH transitioning to new “Epic” health information platform

The Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of two local hospitals say you’ll have an easier time accessing your medical history in a few weeks.

The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) and Kemptville District Hospital (KDH), alongside a third hospital in Deep River, are transitioning to a new, digital health information service called “Epic.”

WDMH CEO Cholly Boland says the new platform, which is in use at several other hospitals in the Ottawa area, will consolidate peoples’ medical records into one place.

“Epic gives the patient’s care team the information they need at their fingertips and is proven to reduce wait times, length of stay in hospital, and readmission,” he says.

“The driving force behind the decision to implement Epic now was our commitment to continually improve patient care and the patient experience,” adds KDH CEO Frank Vassallo.

“Once live with Epic,” he continues, “we will be able to provide seamless care as part of a fully integrated network of hospitals in the Ottawa region all using the same system.”

The new system will go live on November 5th for both hospitals.
