Fat Les’s CHEO fundraiser brings in $4,500

Les Winters says his company’s recent fundraising event for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is going to happen annually from now on.

“We’ve decided that every year we’re going to do it, on our anniversary,” says Winters, the owner of the “Fat Les’s” chain of chip trucks and restaurants.

The fundraising event on Wednesday saw all the sales from an item on the menu donated to CHEO.

Going forward, Winters hopes to give his team more time to prepare for next year, after deciding to do the fundraiser a few days before his business’ fifteenth anniversary.

“We kind of did this on a whim,” he says. “We had fifteen years to plan for it,” he adds, laughing.

According to Winters, $4,500 was raised in total across all fifteen locations.

“$4,500 is a very small number when it comes to a big operation like all those things that happen at CHEO,” he says, “but I’m sure every penny counts.”

We’ve reached out to CHEO to learn how it plans to use the money.
