“Laughs at the Leo” raises $100,000 for new arena in Prescott

The new sports complex in Prescott is getting a funding boost from the “Laughs at the Leo” comedy show.

“It was pretty darn incredible to see folks from my hometown, current and past, get together Saturday evening and raise $100,000 to help with the funding of the new Alaine Chartrand Arena,” says Steve McAllister, the brother of the show’s organizer.

“After two years of dealing with a pandemic,” McAllister says, “families, friends, old schoolmates and acquaintances old and new were awfully pleased to gather in one place and celebrate the construction of a new community centre in Prescott.”

Mayor Brett Todd announced in April that the site for the new arena, named after Prescott resident and retired figure skating champion Alaine Chartrand, had been picked out, and work on the design had begun.

We’ve reached out to Mayor Todd for an update on the project.
