HMCS Oriole stopping in Brockville, offering tours this weekend

You might want to visit Brockville this weekend if you’ve ever wanted to see a Royal Canadian Navy ship up close.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Oriole, the oldest ship in our country’s Navy, is spending Saturday and Sunday in the city before leaving for Toronto.

“The Oriole was invited to attend [the annual Brockville Tall Ships Festival] in June but due to a prior commitment was unable to participate this year,” says Brian Burns, the Chair of the Festival Committee.

“However, they graciously offered to add a stop in Brockville to their May itinerary as they traveled west.”

While docked in the city, Burns says the Oriole will be offering free deck tours from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, and from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening on Sunday.

The ship will be docking along the Blockhouse Island sea wall at roughly 10:00 AM Saturday. Burns says you’ll need to wear a mask if you want to go on a deck tour.
