Town of Prescott extending hydrant flushing into June

You’ll need to keep a close eye on your tap water before doing laundry for a few extra weeks.

Town of Prescott staff has announced that it will continue flushing its hydrants between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM in June.

That means during those hours, you might notice discolored water coming out of your sinks and other taps.

According to town staff, that’s completely normal and doesn’t pose a health risk, but could stain your clothes if the discolored water gets into your laundry.

Operations staff say you should run your taps before washing any clothes during flushing hours, to make sure the water is running clear.

They also recommend you run your taps until the water that comes out of them is clear, if you notice any discolored water.

The flushing was originally announced in early May, and was expected to wrap up by the end of the month.

The announcement of the extension didn’t include a date when the flushing would end.

We’ve reached out to the Town of Prescott’s Director of Operations, Nathan Richard, for more details.
