OPP Constable Dave Holmes talks Police Week 2022

“Buying us donuts and coffee is not necessary, [officers] should be able to buy their own,” Provincial Constable Dave Holmes says, laughing.

Moose FM spoke with Holmes about Police Week, an annual awareness campaign meant to spotlight the different kinds of work officers do in communities throughout Ontario and the rest of Canada.

Holmes, who works with the Grenville County detachment, says highlighting the relationship between officers and the towns and people they serve is the campaign’s goal for 2022.

“Police being in the communities is more of the focus of this year,” he says. “Showing that we are connected to our communities, and also committed to our communities’ overall wellbeing.”

In our area, Holmes says a lot of time has been spent so far this week on direct engagements with the people in our region.

“We also do a lot of school visits,” he says. “Just having joint meetings to see what we can improve on, things like that. That’s what we’re committed to during this week, here at the Grenville County detachment.”

According to Holmes, Police Week is also a major recruiting event for the OPP and other police departments.

If you’re interested in learning more about becoming a police officer, Holmes says the OPP website has more details.
