Town of Prescott considering raising marriage fees

You might need to pay more to get married in Prescott after this summer.

In a report to council, town staff are recommending an increase to the price of marriage licenses, to $125, up from $100.

An increase to the price for a civil marriage ceremony in Prescott, up to $300 during business hours and $350 at any other time, is also being considered. Those currently cost $250.

Right now, Prescott’s $100 fee for a marriage license is tied for the least expensive in the South Grenville area. The last time the price was increased was in 2009.

According to the report, the motivation for the change is to “provide the opportunity to recoup the loss of revenue for Administration while maintaining consistency between municipalities.”

Town council will make a decision on whether or not to increase the price at the first council meeting in June, on the 6th. If they do, according to the report, it’ll come into effect on July 1st.
