South Dundas Fire Chief wins award at Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs conference

South Dundas Fire Chief Cameron Morehouse says his award for Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment and Retention is an honour for his entire fire department.

Morehouse was presented the award at the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs’ annual conference earlier this month, for a “Firefighter for a Day” event the department held last summer.

That event gave people the chance to try real equipment the department uses day-to-day and learn more about becoming a volunteer firefighter in August of last year.

Morehouse appreciates the recognition from the Association, and is also thankful for the other firefighters he works with.

“Their commitment to this community and the job is inspiring,” he says. “I’m very proud to be the Chief of this department.”

He also says plans are being made for another “Firefighter for a Day” recruitment drive in the future.

“Everyone involved put a lot into the event and made it a success,” Morehouse says, “and we’re excited to bring it back in the future.”
