St. Lawrence Academy students organizing fundraising carnival

A group of grade seven and eight students at a local private school are making plans to raise money for a field trip to end their school year.

The students from St. Lawrence Academy, a Prescott-based Christian school, are organizing what they call a “Carnival Day” fundraising event.

Debra Paquette, a teacher at the school, says the students have a variety of plans to make the day entertaining for everyone who attends.

“We’ve got a miniature mini-putt course that we’re gonna be setting up, we’ll have a duck race, some bowling games, a wheel of tickets, ring toss, fish pond, and even some face painting and guessing jars,” she says. “Fun stuff like that.”

You’ll be able to participate in those games by buying “tokens”, which cost $1 each.

“Basically, you’re looking at one to three tokens per game, and realistically,” Paquette says, “if you bring $10, you’re gonna be able to come out and have a great time.

Paquette also says the students are excited for the graduation field trip, now that COVID-19 restrictions allow for them.

“There’s just excitement in the air. Everybody’s excited to do all of our year-end things that we haven’t gotten to do for the last few years.”

The event is happening on May 14th, from noon to 3:00 PM, at the St. Lawrence Academy.
