Construction on new water tower to start in early 2023

Matt Armstrong, the Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Prescott, says our community’s new water tower should be up and running by the end of 2023.

“We’re going to do the planning this year. We’re going to issue the tender this year, and then in all likelihood, the construction will begin next year and finish next year,” Armstrong says.

According to Armstrong, construction on the new tower shouldn’t have a significant effect on traffic.

“We’re planning on putting it on the new site of the recreation complex, right at the corner of Churchill [Road] and Sofia [Street],” he says. “So when it’s being built, there’ll be very few interruptions, because it’s kind of up and out of the way.”

Once construction is finished, Armstrong says switching from the old tower to the new one should be “fairly seamless.”

The new water tower is being partly funded by both the federal and provincial governments, as part of an investment in 144 different water infrastructure projects across Ontario.

Elsewhere in the South Grenville region, the City of Brockville and Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal also received funding as part of the investment.

Prescott Mayor Brett Todd says engineering work for the new tower will begin “shortly.”
