A fundraising event normally held in Brockville is coming to our community this summer.
After a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, the Brockville Rotary Club is bringing its annual fundraising golf tournament to the Prescott Golf Club.
David Keenlyside, a member of the Rotary Club, says the idea to hold the event in Prescott this year, rather than the Brockville Country Club, came from a history with the community.
“We have many members who used to be members of the Prescott Rotary Club that have come to join us,” Keenlyside says.
“We’ve been really proud of our support of a lot of fundraising initiatives in the Prescott market. So, for instance, we’ve been big supporters of the South Grenville Food Bank all through the pandemic, we’ve provided funding for the Shakespearean Festival, we’ve always included the South Grenville high school in our yearly secondary student merit awards, so we’ve got a really big representation in Prescott already.”
Keenlyside says entering the tournament before May 15th costs $140 for people who aren’t members of the golf club, or $95 for members. After the early bird deadline, prices increase to $175 for non-members and $135 for members.
If you’re not a golfer, you can also pay $55 for dinner at the golf club, a wine and cheese reception, silent auctions being held alongside the tournament, and a scotch tasting bar.
The money the event raises is going into the Rotary Club, and will be used to fund various projects in the South Grenville region.
“To give you an idea, one of the areas that we’ve got some funding set aside for this year is to aid in the construction of the new Prescott arena,” says Keenlyside.
“We’ve also got funds to participate in the refurbishment of the new parkland at Reynolds Park in the city of Brockville. So, there’s a number of different initiatives that we do ongoing.”
The tournament is being held on June 3rd, starting at 1:00 PM. If you want to take part or attend the dinner, you can find registration details on the Brockville Rotary Club website.
