Ontario government announces $6.5-million investment in Leeds-Grenville long-term care homes

Wellington House Nursing Home in Prescott may have some job openings in the next few weeks.

MPP Steve Clark says the province is investing more than six million dollars into hiring new staff at long-term care homes in the Leeds-Grenville region. Wellington House Nursing Home is receiving $523,284. The rest of the money is going towards homes in Brockville, Gananoque, Merrickville, Jasper and Athens.

Minister of Long-Term Care Paul Calandra says the investment is part of the province’s plan to increase how much direct care time people living in long-term care get every day. “We know that more qualified staff means more daily care for residents,” he says. “Hiring more staff is part of our government’s plan to fix long-term care and to improve the quality of care residents receive and the quality of life they experience.”

Clark says this comes from a total of $673-million going towards long-term care staffing in Ontario this year, and that the government plans to invest an additional $3.07-billion by the end of 2025.
