UPDATE: Prescott’s first “Fort Town Steampunk Festival” coming to town June 11th

UPDATE JUNE 9th: The Fort Town Steampunk Festival has relocated from Fort Wellington, and will now be held at Windmill Brewery in Johnstown. The event is still being held on Saturday, June 11th.

Don’t get rid of your costume from this year’s Fort Town Night Run right away. The organizers of that event are also holding a “Fort Town Steampunk Festival” at Fort Wellington later in the summer.

Julie Larose, who MyPrescottNow.com interviewed about the Night Run earlier this week, says the two events were originally the same thing.

“Originally, before COVID, we were going to have a Steampunk Festival during the day, and then the run at night,” she says, “but now, with everything going on, we’ve decided to separate the two events, just for a little bit better social distancing.”

The festival will feature activities like mock gun duels, a murder mystery, and a scavenger hunt. Just like with the Night Run, Larose says anyone who attends is encouraged to wear Victorian-style clothing, like tail coats, top hats and bustiers.

“Also,” she continues, “some people like to go with ‘inventor’ costumes. ‘Wild west’ is also common, of that era. Even fairies are a really big part of Victorian science fiction, so there’s a wide range. If you just look online a little bit, you’ll see lots of great ideas.”

The festival is scheduled for June 11th. Tickets cost $11.59 for people ages 14 and older, or $6.30 for kids ages 8 to 13. Anyone 7 or younger is allowed in for free. You can buy tickets for it on Eventbrite.
