“Thank you all for coming out to show support for Ukraine, suffering at this hour from the continued assault by Vladimir Putin’s facist Russia.”
That’s Mayor Brett Todd, speaking at a ceremony on Saturday where the Ukrainian flag was raised next to Canada’s. The event was held outside town hall at 1:00 PM.
Todd understands this event is just a small gesture for the people of Ukraine. “As I always say at events like this,” Todd said, “we are a small town, and what we do here has to be seen through that prism. We are lighting just one candle today in what seems like a sea of darkness.”
“But if you look across Canada, and across the globe,” he continued, “you’ll find that millions upon millions of these candles are being lit right now, in support of Ukraine, and in sheer outrage over the genocidal tyranny of the war criminal Putin and his allies in the Kremlin.”
