Rideau Valley Conservation Authority: possible flooding in low lying areas this week

If you live near a stream, or in a low-lying area, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) says you should take extra care to keep your sump pump clear right now.

The organization has issued a water safety statement, saying water levels throughout the region are expected to rise early this week because of Sunday’s warm temperatures and rainfall.

Aside from making sure your sump pump isn’t obstructed and is working properly, the RVCA says ice on the surface of any bodies of water in the region is unstable, so you should stop your kids from playing on that ice in case they fall through.

It also recommends you have a backup generator and pump at your home, so you can keep your house from flooding if the power goes out.

The statement is in effect until Tuesday at 5:00 PM, or until the organization puts out an update. MyPrescottNow.com is monitoring the situation, and will update this article with any new information.
