Town of Prescott votes to keep River Route running

The bus route that runs through South Grenville won’t be going away at the end of the month.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, the Town of Prescott agreed to make the River Route an “ongoing service”, meaning the bus route will continue to be available after the end of the pilot program.

Additionally, Town of Prescott Chief Administrative Officer Matt Armstrong says people have started to use the service more in the last few weeks, after a sharp decline in ridership caused by COVID-19 restrictions. “By the end of January, it [the ridership] started to come back up,” he says, “and the first couple weeks of February it was also improving.”

Mayor Brett Todd says he thinks the bus route is extremely important for the region. “I think our river area needs a service like this,” he says, “and I think Leeds-Grenville needs a service like this, and beyond that, I think eastern Ontario does.”

The River Route is a bus route that runs through Brockville, Prescott, Augusta and Edwardsburgh-Cardinal on weekdays, stopping near popular workplaces along the way. If you’re interested in riding the bus, a list of stops along the route is available on the bus route’s website.
