Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau offering free income tax services for low-income residents

If you live in the Leeds-Grenville area, you might be able to get some help filing your taxes this year, for free.

The Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau, a Brockville-based organization that helps non-profits and other groups recruit volunteers, is beginning its annual Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.

People who make $35,000 a year or less, or couples who make $45,000 or less annually, can take their income tax forms to locations in their home municipality, where volunteers will help them file their taxes for free. The service is only available in North Grenville, Prescott, Brockville, Augusta, Gananoque and Elgin.

The service will become available at all locations starting February 22nd. Prescott and Brockville residents can also get help filing their taxes from volunteers over the phone. To see where to take your tax forms in your community, and when they’ll be open, check the Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau Facebook page.
