Prescott Fire Department: “Light Up The Night” Christmas parade not returning in traditional format for 2021

As Christmas parades are being organized throughout Canada, including in North Grenville and North Dundas, Prescott is making changes to its annual celebration.

The Prescott Fire Department has announced that the “Light Up The Night” Christmas parade isn’t being held normally this year. The event, last held in November 2019, was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fire Department says despite capacity limits being lifted provincially, too many people typically attend the parade for it to be safe with the normal format. “We will take this year to reflect on past parades,” a statement from the department says, “and strive to hold one of the best Light Up The Night parades ever in 2022.”

According to the department, an alternate format for this year’s event is currently being planned, with more details to come over the next few weeks.
