A fundraiser is being organized to benefit nonprofits in Kemptville and Brockville. Members of “In Motion and Momentum Plus,” an ongoing group project organized by people in Leeds Grenville, have announced a fundraising campaign to support two local organizations. The group was put together by CSE Consulting, a local employment agency for Leeds-Grenville residents that offers resume workshops, a job board website, and other employment assistance. The proceeds will be divided between the Cooperative Care Centre, a shelter in Brockville where people without a home can stay the night freely, and the Kemptville Youth Centre, a non-profit that runs after-school programs for kids as well as employment workshops and other youth programs.
Jen Digby, a member of the project, says the team working on the fundraiser has members from throughout Leeds and Grenville. “We’re kind of everywhere,” says Digby, “from Brockville, Johnstown, Prescott and Kemptville, and we’re all people that are just looking to make a new step in our lives.”
Digby also says organizing the fundraiser has been enlightening for her group. “We’re all very, very different people, in different parts of our lives,” Digby says, “and we’ve all come together to create this project – whether it be creating the press release, the posters that we’ve hung up around Brockville and Kemptville, or if it’s just adding our contributions through connections we know or donations we can make ourselves. So, it’s given us all a sense of purpose, in using some of the skills we might not have recognized in ourselves that we’ve learned through this group.”
Donations are being accepted at the CSE offices in Prescott, Kemptville and Brockville until November 5th. People are being asked to donate money, packaged food for the Kemptville Youth Centre, and warm clothing and sleeping bags for the Cooperative Care Centre.
