Town of Prescott votes to introduce garbage bag tags in 2022

The Town of Prescott is planning a replacement for the municipal garbage bag system. At a council meeting on October 18th, town council voted unanimously to introduce a garbage bag tag system. The tags will cost $1.50 each, the same as the current garbage bags.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Brett Todd says the decision came after a recent survey by the Town. “We’ve simply had too many issues with the blue garbage bags to keep using them,” says Todd. “It’s just one more headache none of us need.” According to a report from town staff, 80 per cent of the survey’s respondents had issues recently with the blue bags, with the most common problems being tearing and puncturing.

According to Mayor Todd, the bag tags will be introduced in early 2022, while the existing stock of blue bags is cleared out. Mayor Todd also says any blue bags you still have after the switch will still be accepted.
