The deadline for candidates to declare themselves for the 2021 general election has passed.
The candidates for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands & Rideau Lakes are Lorraine Rekmans representing the Green Party of Canada, the People’s Party of Canada’s Alex Cassell, Michelle Taylor from the New Democratic Party, the Liberals’ Roberta Abbott, and incumbent MP Michael Barrett of the Conservative party.
Rekmans and Taylor are returning candidates for their party from the 2019 election. Cassell and Abbott were nominated by their parties instead of 2019 People’s Party candidate Evan Hindle and 2019 Liberal candidate Josh Bennett.
In the 2019 election, Barrett won in a landslide victory, securing 49% of the total votes and almost double the votes of the closest runner up, the Liberals.
