“It really does show the power of regionalism”; Mayor Todd optimistic about new public transit launch

The launch event for the upcoming River Route South Grenville bus route was held today.

The event featured local figures like Prescott mayor Brett Todd and members of council from the four participating municipalities, all boarding a City of Brockville bus in Brockville and riding to popular workplaces and landmarks in Augusta, Prescott and Cardinal before departing. Mayor Todd says the event was extremely successful.

“It really does show the power of regionalism,” he said in an interview after the event, “and it shows what we can do when we all work together and collaborate, on any project, really.”

“But transit is such a huge thing, because it’ll provide that added connecting link between all of our communities.”

Mayor Todd says that, despite some concerns within the municipalities surrounding the ongoing pandemic, there’s optimism that the bus route will be profitable during the six-month pilot period.

“We’re definitely going to take that into account when we assess the numbers, the ridership stats, and everything else, and just hope for the best on that.”

Mayor Todd also thanked all of the other participating municipalities and the Eastern Ontario Leadership Council for their contributions to the project.

The bus route begins following its regular schedule on August 30th.
