Johnstown And Cardinal Community Pools Set To Open This Weekend

Public pools in Edwardsburgh/Cardinal will be opening for the first time since 2019.

Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities with the township, Mike Spencer says starting Saturday, the Johnstown & Cardinal Community Pools will both be open for the season.

Spencer says before being allowed to enter, swimmers will be asked to complete a swim test.

“It doesn’t matter how old you are, you will still have to show that you’re a competent swimmer,” Spencer said. “The test is essentially swimming one length of the pool, and then treading water for 30 seconds.”

Spencer says every swimmer will be screened for COVID-19 prior to entering.

As part of the township’s summer programs, Spencer says they are offering COVID restricted swimming lesson levels of the Lifesaving Society’s Swim For Life instructional program.

He adds that once the pools open, only 25 people will be allowed to use them at a time.

“If we find we exceed that number on a regular basis, then we’ll have to look to implement some registration and booking times,” Spencer said.

The pool will be open Saturday from 12pm to 6pm.

A full summer schedule will be released by the township sometime next week.
