Prescott Council Looks At Ways To Improve Community Services

Town staff in Prescott are looking at ways to best utilize services and facilities in the community.

At their latest meeting, council heard a presentation from the new Manager of Community Services Samantha Joudoin-Miller regarding her vision towards improving community services.

The presentation looked at possible activities that could improve usage at the Leo Boivin Community Centre, from youth programming, to athletics, events, and trade shows.

Mayor Brett Todd says in order to make the vision a reality, they’ll be looking to add a number of dedicated volunteers.

“We’re going to try and improve volunteerism in town,” Todd said. “We’re really starting to spark more volunteers in Prescott in a number of areas, starting with recreation, from the Communities in Bloom initiative to volunteers at the proposed dog-park”

The presentation also discussed the prospect of creating a Youth Advisory Group, which will look to encourage programming and activities that will address the needs of the youth in Prescott to enhance quality of life, health and well-being for youth in the community.

Todd says they also heard updates on the Prescott Museum and Visitors Centre.

“The museum will be open likely following the Labour Day weekend, given the COVID-delays,” Todd said. “But we’re looking at guest speakers, interactive exhibits, and those are being planned right now.”

Anyone interested in volunteer opportunities, can reach out to Joudoin-Miller through the town’s website.
