Prescott Aims To Open Local Museum In The Fall

The Mayor of Prescott is letting residents know about the current status of the proposed Prescott Museum.

Mayor Brett Todd says the new museum was set to open its doors on the Victoria Day weekend but now they expect doors to be open sometime in the Fall.

“We’re trying to get things back on track now that things are opening up, and we’re starting to look at getting back to normalcy when it comes to operating these types of facilities,” Todd said.

Back in August of 2020, town council made the decision to sell the site for the town’s Forwarder’s Museum, while putting plans in place for a new museum that would be a reflection of Prescott’s history.

The museum will be located at the corner of King and Centre Street, across from the town’s clocktower.

Todd says it’s a perfect spot for not only the museum, but also for a new visitor centre.

“There will be a focus on Indigenous history in the area as well,” Todd said. “We’re going to try and be broad based and provide a better look into Prescott’s history than we ever have before.”

Todd says the town has plans to create a website dedicated to the museum so residents can learn more about it.

He says more information will be available once they have an official opening date.
