Border Restrictions Remain In Place For Boating And Fishing

Boaters and anglers from outside the country are being reminded of the travel restrictions that are still in place.

The Canada Border Services Agency says unless exempt, people from outside Canada are not allowed to enter Canadian waters for non-essential reasons, including cottage trips, pleasure and competitive fishing, fishing tours, and sightseeing.

These restrictions include any movements on the St. Lawrence River, for non-essential purposes, even if boaters are not coming to port, anchoring or mooring.

The restrictions apply regardless of the vaccination status of boaters.

If boaters come to port, anchor, moor or make contact with another vessel, they must report to the CBSA immediately.

The CBSA says the minimum fine for failing to report upon entry is $1,000.

Meanwhile, foreign national boaters found to be in Canadian waters may be fined up to $750,000 and face imprisonment for six months.

Boaters who enter the country without reporting to the CBSA may face financial penalties, seizure of their vessels and criminal charges.
