Prescott Warns Of Potential Vendor Scam

A public notice has been issued by the Town of Prescott warning residents of a vendor scam.

Town staff is monitoring the suspected scam which was recently posted to Prescott and area social media pages, advertising a local vendor market being held at the Leo Boivin Community Centre on July 3rd and 4th.

Board Chair with the Prescott BIA Kevin Bunce says there is no such market, and vendors should ignore any posting that says otherwise.

“I actually just saw a post about it yesterday, and it was not from the town, it was from a person,” Bunce said. “A couple of people commented and then the post disappeared shortly after.”

According to town staff, the post includes a daily vendor fee with instructions to send payment to a private individual.

They note the Leo Boivin Community Centre has not been approved for the use of this event, or any booking made through the town by individuals or groups.

However, Bunce says for those interested in a legitimate vendor market, they should contact him.

“It’s kind of interesting and ironic, I actually am looking for vendors to put on an antique market downtown and it’s interesting how the timing of this scam worked out,” Bunce said.

If you’re concerned that you may have been victimized, you’re encouraged to contact police or the town’s Bylaw Department.
