Prescott Council Approves Temporary Off-Leash Dog Park

An off-leash dog park is coming soon to Prescott.

At their latest meeting, town council approved a temporary off-leash dog park at the unused baseball field on Sophia Street during construction of the town’s new recreation complex.

Mayor Brett Todd says once the arena is completed, a location around the area will be chosen as a permanent off-leash dog park at the recreation complex.

“It will be incorporated on a permanent basis,” Todd says. “It may look a little different, it may be relocated but there will be a permanent dog-park in Prescott, starting with this temporary solution.”

Todd says there is currently an existing informal off-leash dog park located east of the Town’s skateboard park on Churchill Road.

That area has been identified as a portion of the lands where the new arena will be sitting.

Todd says residents have been yearning for a monitored space where they could let their dogs run free, and now the town is providing that space.

“We should have it open in four-to-six weeks, as long as we have good weather and everything works out for the construction site,” Todd said. “We’re really looking forward to this, people have been wanting it for a long time, and I’m glad we’re able to offer it.”

The overall cost of the project is expected to be around $25,000.
