The case against the Brockville Mental Health Centre continues this week with video of a patient’s vicious attack on a nurse. The Ministry of Labour has charged the health centre with failing to protect employee health and safety after the incident, which happened in 2014.
The registered nurse was left in charge of a high-risk patient who had a history of attacking staff and others. On a trip to the bathroom, the patient suddenly struck out at the nurse, stabbing her repeatedly in the neck with a pen. The Ministry of Labour inspector says the health centre hasn’t had a proper risk assessment done since 2009.
