Registration Opens For In-Person Aquatarium Summer Camps

Families can now register their kids for the Aquatarium’s 2021 Summer Camps.

Registration is officially open for the camp, where kids can go behind the scenes, interact and learn about animals, and explore the nature side of Brockville.

Director of Visitor Experience Sarah Laturnus says after running a successful in-person camp last year, they decided to do it all again.

“We want to make sure the children involved really get the opportunity to have the Aquatarium to themselves,” Laturnus said. “We get down and dirty with the kids with science experiments and there’s eight total weeks, so there’s lots to choose from.”

Registration takes place online only and the camps will run for a full week.

The camps are aimed at kids between the ages of 5-11 and run weekdays from 9am to 4pm.

Laturnus says during these COVID-times, they wanted to provide a fun and interactive way to keep kids active this summer.

“There are lots of kids unfortunately who don’t get a chance to have a lot of stimulation outside the home, especially nowadays that COVID is a thing and lockdowns happen” Laturnus said.0 “So, this is an opportunity for them to learn, have fun while they’re doing it and make forever memories.”

In terms of COVID-protocols, all participants must complete the Aquatarium screening prior to attending any program.

Laturnus says all their programs will follow Ontario Government Policies and Regulations regarding COVID-19.

“We are adamant about handwashing, there are markings on the floor, and we walk with the kids with pool noodles between them,” she said.  “It’s all based on whatever is required at any given time in the framework because between July and August, a lot could happen.”

To register or learn more about the camps, you can check out the Aquatarium’s website.
