Prescott locals step up to play roles in Anne of Green Gables

A group of brave and talented local people have been cast in the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival’s community production of Anne of Green Gables. The play is a fundraising show to support the festival.

Prescott’s Dallis Campbell has returned this year to play the lead role of Anne Shirley. Dallis played Leisl in The Sound of Music last season.  Jonathan Keeler of Greenbush will be appearing as Gilbert Blythe, as well as Prescott’s Kathryn Smith as Diana Barry and Jessica Madden as Josie Pye.

Other Avonlea youth include Julia Cadieux, Norah Cook, Heidi Garswood, Gregory Garswood, Julia Higginson, Madeleine Joanisse, Anastasia Joanisse, Elisabeth Lavallee, and Katrina TeGrotenhuis.

Playing the iconic roles of Marilla and Matthew are Prescott’s June George and Brockville’s Malcolm Gillis.  Rachel Lynde will be played by Karen Koivumaki and Mrs. Barry by Reverend Tracey Smith.

Adult townspeople include Nancy Casselman, Reverend Myra Garvin, Pat Gillis, Jennifer Givenrod, Peter Green, Amy Hawkins, Lynda Joanisse, Renata Kimmerly, Kathy Lacasse, Lynn McNab, Debra Paquette, Joan Rupert-Barkley, Ben Sugarman and Sue Vallom.

The musical director and pianist for the production is Patty Sugarman of Mallorytown, and the show will be stage-managed by Alison Purcell.This musical production Anne of Green Gables was adapted from the novel by the Festival’s artistic director Rona Waddington, who is also directing the show.
